Sorry that my part of the internet has been silent, I've been in the middle of a move, work has picked up, and it sometimes just feels like everything is happening at once. But here we are, everything happening at once, so let us dive into all the joyousness that appears to be happening.
The Jets are dumping salary (to be expected) to make way for… the future! (Queue 1940’s model showing off plastic-y kitchen of tomorrow). DeVito left, Landry left (shocker), etc. etc. Revis, like that past two years is in limbo. Who can we blame for this flip-flopping? Both. Why? Money rules the world and no Nike endorsement or personalized sneaker can supplement the need for green (not Shonn – more on him later). Team loyalty is rare – Player loyalty is rare. If the Jets let him walk, that does two things – helps with the salary cap and free cash “next year”, but also loses a decent fan base, marketing dollars, and a player that hasn’t completely lost a step and may continue to be someone to make Sundays (Monday and Thursday nights) to look forward to. Which come to think of it, the only marketing dollars the Jets had inadvertently acquired was that running back/TE they got from Denver last year.
There are times where I wonder if marketing dollars plays a role in salary cap situations. Does it allow a team not to stress so much over it because they can supplement elsewhere? Who knows? Seriously, anyone? So more roster shuffling. Shonn Greene goes to the Titans for $10 million. Jet fan reactions: “Um, ok. Good luck, I guess.” I’m not saying Shonn Greene was a bad back, he had his moments, and when the offense was gelling and working together, he seemed to do well… seemed to do well. That’s why Adrian Peterson is AP, his performance rarely relies on others doing what they’re supposed to.
Some bright spots, Holmes and Cromartie restructure, hoping for a future that is promising (and soon). Or they've resigned themselves that not many other teams would take them, so might as well stay put. Cro stepped up last season, but like his super sperm, he sometimes roams “off the reservation” in coverage. Ladies, gentlemen, children, jersey-wearing-dogs, welcome to the rebuilding years. There will be no discussion of quarterback controversy (at least from me), there will be scant visions of winning seasons. Times like this make me wistful for the Testevarde years. Hockey is in full mid-swing, I have no idea who is hot this season. I started watching regularly, then kind of fell off, even for a shortened season. March madness is also causing people down here in North Carolina to ignore just about every other sport. Unfortunately, I don’t have much care for college sports. Now that my move is nearly complete, I may have some TV watching to do – Who expected the end of The Walking Dead this week? I didn't not like that. Game of Thrones returning has me excited, as well as Doctor Who. I do encourage feedback/comments/discussion/F-U’s from readers, so don’t be shy, let us dialog.
