Patience The Key For Gang Green

The last couple months for Jets fans have been rough. This notion has been well-known and well-documented. My message for Jets fans. Relax. Take a deep breath. You see key players from last year's team signing new contracts with new teams and testing free agency. You're watching division rivals dish out blockbuster contracts for players the Jets could use. This is occurring all the while the Jets are releasing popular veterans like Sione Pouha and losing impact players such as Mike Devito to other NFL teams. The big name free agents that jets fans are craving for are being replaced with mostly unknown guys like Mike Goodson or Brandon Gibson. Most jets fans are baffled with this process and demanding answers. But there is one simple answer to this. John Izdik. Lets take a closer look.
New General Manager John Izdik has a plan. He has a vision for what he thinks is best for this organization and has slowly started to implement it. Taking over a team with severe salary-cap restrictions and many questions surrounding the roster, Izdik has began to put his stamp on the 2013 jets. With the release of Pouha, and the restructuring of Santonio Holmes and Antonio Cromartie's contracts, Izdik has given the team over 15 million of cap to play with. This was a team 24 hours ago that had less than 5 million to spend with and would most certainly have not been pursuing any free agents this year. He let Mike DeVito, a very underrated defensive lineman sign a lucrative deal with the Kansas City Chiefs. A good player, but a deal too rich for the current Jets blood. This is the change from the former GM to the current one. Although DeVito was good, he was overpaid by the Chiefs. Izdik thought the money could be allocated better elsewhere and wasn't swayed by fan influence. There'll be criticisms but Izdik will stick to the plan.
The Jets current roster void of many playmakers and weak competition at certain positions is about to experience a significant over haul. David Garrard ,35,an experience quarterback who just a few years ago was a pro bowl alternate has been signed to give competition to position severely lacking it. It's a low risk high reward deal for the Jets. Garrard doesn't come without injury risk. But when healthy will give Sanchez a legitimate run for his job. Izdik stresses competition for all positions so expect more signings like Garrard given our current cap Situation. Low risk high reward. You might as well apply this to our mission in free agency. Izdik Is currently interested in free agents Brandon Gibson and Mike Goodson. Two young players who will come cheaper because of limited exposure but might be ready for increased roles. Again low risk high reward. Do you sense a theme starting here ?
Odyssey the biggest story line of this off-season, Darelle Revis, has yet to be resolved. No one knows what will happen but it certainly is looking like a trade is now in the works. Losing your best player will no doubt hurt and severely impact this once dominant Defense. But there is no other way . You can not pay a corner quarterback money in the salary cap era and our best player is surely not giving us a discount. Izdik has a plan and we must hope it involves getting a great package back for one of our most dominant players in franchise history . There is doubt in the eyes of all jets fans right now but we must believe in our current general manager. There is a plan in place to fix this team for Rex and company and as we all see it is now underway . It won't be fixed overnight but remember Jets fans. Relax. Breathe. And start to enjoy the ride.
