Jets Add To 'Ground n Pound'
/
Grant Halverson Getty ImagesFor months during the off-season Rex Ryan and the Jets spoon fed us sound bite after sound bite on the Jets being a 'Ground n Pound' team, a team with an identity, did anyone tell running back Shonn Greene? the running game is more 'Greene n Plod' than 'Ground n pound'.
Greene has averaged a dismal 2.8 yards per carry over the first 3 games of the season, following what can only be described as the dullest 1000 plus rushing season in NFL history. During the course of last season Greene averaged 4.2 yards per carry but only registered 4 games over 80 yards.
Joe McKnight and Bilal Powell, (who impressed during camp) offer little improvement to a failing ground game, leaving the Jets little choice but to add to the back field. The Jets announced the signing of running back Jonathan Grimes, (off the Texans practice squad) a talented rookie from William and Mary.
According to league rules if a player is signed from a practice squad, he must be placed on the 53-man roster.
