Jets Win Ugly In Miami

Joel Auerbach Getty ImagesThis wasn't a game for the football purists or the faint hearted as the Jets somehow ran out 23-20 winners in overtime. Reggie Bush threatened to run riot all as the Dolphins moved the chains effortlessly during the course of the first half, Bush had rushed for 61 yards from 10 carries before falling to injury in the second quarter, on the other hand the Jets picked up where they left off in Pittsburgh as Sanchez and the offense struggled to find any kind of rhythm, the continued 'sanchbow' experiment becomes even more farcical with every game, (unless your a fan of fake punts). The Dolphins hit the locker room up 10-3 through a D.Thomas 1 yard rush and a 21 yard field goal by Dan Carpenter, The Jets responded via a 33 yard Nick Folk field goal.

The second half opened up with back to back turnovers in the favour of the Jets, firstly LaRon Landry pounced on a Tannerhill pass (intended for tight end Fassano) returning it to the house, tying the scores at 10-10. Darrelle Revis recovered a fumble by Thomas on the very next drive, only for Sanchez to throw an awful pass towards the endzone which was easily intercepted by Clemons. Revis left the field with a knee injury, substained as he attempted to avoid a block. (Amongst some head scratching decisions by the replacement refs (for either team) the Dolphins regained the lead through Lane with a 1 yard run. Folk added hope for the Jets as he converted a 20 yard field with 13.35 still to play in the fourth.

With the score at 17-13 in favour of the Dolphins, the drama began. Dan Carpenter dragged a 47 yard field goal attempt left of the target, either side traded punts before a hapless Sanchez combined with the only two players (who would later emerge from the game without question marks over their performances) Santonio Holmes drew yet another flag from the officials before hooking up with Sanchez for another 15 yards, after another failed attempt at the 'Ground n Pound' Sanchez connected with Jeremy Kerley for a 7 yard touchdown leaving the Jets up by 3 (20-17) with 3.05 left on the clock. A combination of a Kyle Wilson penalty (pass interference) and a some smart play by Tannerhill saw the Dolphins tie the game with a 41 yard field goal by Dan Carpenter with 21 seconds remaining.

Having won the toss the Jets elected to receive the ball. Once again they failed to move the ball and were forced to punt from their own 47 yard line. The Dolphins created a fresh set of downs before Tannerhill connected with Hartline for 41 yards, in one fianl effort they mustered up another 5 yards leaving Dan Carpenter the chance to win the game with a 48 yard field goal, as with his 47 yard attempt earlier in the game he dragged his attempt wide. Holmes who finished the day with 147 yards from 9 receptions connected with Sanchez for 38 yards, backed up by an additional 5 yards from Greene left Nick Folk with the simply task of converting a 33 yard field goal, so you thought ....Folks kick was blocked, but any Dolphins joy was soon short lived as they soon realised that an attempt to ice the kicker with the timeout back fired, Folk made no mistake the second time round. The Jets escaped with a 23-20 overtime victory with even more question marks hanging over them. It was a dismal display.
