Jets v Giants: Fallout

Frank Victores US PresswireThe Jets turned in yet another lack luster performance in the 'Snoopy Bowl' coming out on the wrong side of a 26-3 score line. The result left a majority of the Jets faithful screaming "same old Jets".... I mean really you jump on the panic button after 2 pre-season defeats!

The whole idea of pre-season is to iron out the creases, not to create mass hysteria, ask yourself this, do you think the Jags will make the play-offs? They've picked off the Giants and Saints, but are you rushing to the book makers to place your bet? ... no, so apply that logic to what's happening in our house.

0-4 and as it stands and just the injury to Eric Smith would be a great pre-season in my eyes. Believe me i'm as frustrated and angry as the next fan, its easy to criticise from the get go, you have every right to, but I choose to look at the positives from the game.

I'm not attempting to paper over any cracks, I'm fully aware of Hunters inability to block, the lack luster offense, depth issues and so on, yes its an endless list. I have seen some progress made within the team. I see no QB controversy, Sanchez has improved his footwork, and is 13/17 for 80 yards (plus a horrible pick six). Tebow, is Tebow, he looks a threat, gives us that air of unpredictability, we've seen no real Tebow/option/wildcat series on the field yet, why give our opponents a sneak peak at what we have planned.

The concerns about covering Gronkowski and Hernandez, are still there, but i'm starting to feel more comfortable with Landry and Bell in the backfield, rookie Antonio Allen has also impressed. In fact the defense could be a top 3 defense.

Their is a good competitive kicking battle going on, we've added a downfield threat in the form of Stephen Hill, Coples, Davis, White have all impressed. Bilal Powell looks hungry, even Shonn Greene impressed me (that takes some doing). Add to this the players that are missing through injury.

I am blind to the glaring frailties and obvious flaws in my team, with my love for the Gang Green, maybe at times yes, but until that first regular season I refuse to panic, a lot can change in two weeks. I have faith that the team will perform to the best of its ability come September 9th, but I also keep in mind the harsh reality that we may yet again struggle to make the play-offs. As frustrated as we are by the teams performance i'm as frustrated by the reaction of us...the fans, if its a case of "same old jets" then its one we're used too, we know the pain, the heartache some more than others. It sucks!! but lets not give up hope and friends just yet.
