Aaron Maybin: Bust To Breakout...

According to sources the Jets are believed to have offered a first round tender in the region of $1.25m to OLB Aaron Maybin. Should Maybin be offered a bigger pay day elsewhere, then the Jets will have the opportunity to match that deal, or receive a first round draft pick as compensation.

The former Buffalo Bills 1st round pick was labelled 'a bust' by many after failing to record a single sack in his two year spell with the Bills, and I, like many had my doubts when the Jets picked him up at the beginning of the 2011/12 season. After an impressive pre season, Maybin originally made the Jets 53 man roster only to be cut the following day, at the time it was yet another set back for Maybin who's endured more than his fair share of heartbreak, turmoil and tragic circumstances within his personal life over the years.

Maybin returned to the Jets four weeks later, making an instant impact as he recorded his first career sack during the defeat to the Ravens. Maybin went on to lead the team in sacks (6) and 4 forced fumbles (tied with Garrett McIntyre).

Maybin's top of my 'one to watch' list during the 2012/13 season, (neck on the line Maybin to have a breakout year) with the right coaching and a full camp I believe he'll be even better next year, especially if he manages to bulk up a little and add a few extra lbs, he'll see twice as many snaps next time out.

You should check the following article by Jenny Ventras of The Star Ledger to get an understanding of the perseverance and mental strength shown by Maybin, who's life has been filled with heartbreak from a tender age. I personally tip my hat to Maybin for showing an unbelievable amount of character and resilience.
