NY Jets Over The Pond (NYJOTP) is the brain child of myself (Mark Teece, founder of the site) and we aim to bring you our unique insight on the Jets from either side of the pond. In this section you'll discover how I became a Jets fan and how the site was born, enjoy....
My earliest memories and the beginning of my love affair with the NFL started when I was around the 12-13. I'd watch a show that was broadcasted on channel 4. With the volume on the lowest setting, (due to the fact it was on after my bedtime).
I was instantly gripped, and found myself watching on a regular basis, but like most sports outside the US I struggled to stay connected. Throughout the remainder of the 1990's I lived out my NFL passion via the madden football games, its fair to say madden football taught me all i know. Fast forwarding a few years and my fix of football was becoming more available, as i discovered a weekly magazine called fifth down (which has now ceased to exist). Whilst most fans in the UK had fallen in love with Bears, Cowboys, 49ers and whoever was popular during that moment in time, I was still without a team to follow, I just enjoyed watching NFL. Before the beginning of the 2000 season, I picked myself a team based on the following, I wasn't going to follow the popular, successful teams, the bigger, so called power houses of football, I wanted an underdog, someone I could cheer on and say yeah I've seen the tough times i know what it means to be a fan of this team. From the 2000 I became a Jets fan (great draft with, Pennington, Shaun Ellis, John Abraham, Antony Becht, ) plus the Monday night miracle, I was hooked and the pain started lol.
During the 2000's and BOOM NFL is making a come back mainly thanks to Sky Sports. Games are now shown on Thursdays, Sundays & Mondays like many of you back in the US, the guys in our studios do a fantastic job on translating what's going on throughout the league. My problem has been once the game/broadcast is over its like the NFL ceases to exist until the next televised game. There is little, if any, news shown on any of 350 plus TV channels (of which I watch 4) during the week. I've found that this seems to be common practice in many countries. I then have to spend time searching the Internet/Twitter for all the breaking news, I realized how off putting and time consuming this can be for fans that don't have much time on their hands as family/everyday life is busier than ever.
